Wilder.

Sunday - Tzu and I visited a cafe called Wilder last Sunday! (:

It was actually introduced by one of my colleagues! She actually went back twice last week cause she loved the food and place so much heh. So, we decided to give it a try!

The space was pretty quiet when we arrived for lunch! The cafe only opens at 12.30 pm, and it was pretty quiet when we arrived. The space was simple and I love the grey washed walls and the pipe lighting (: Plus, the food served here's halal!

The staff serving us were really nice and they actually have surprise mains on the menu too, which changes from time to time I think. We actually wanted to try the burgers, but unfortunately, they weren't available that day.

So, we ordered a mocha, the salted egg fries to share and the surprise mains for that day - Baked chicken leg and salmon pasta!

The mocha was quite good, I liked it! (: Really chocolate-y and smooth. Brought out my Printwich snaps for Tzu to look at, and I gave some of the photos for him to put up at his work space heh. Looking at the snapshots make me miss our travel days so, so much!

Our next trip's probably only gonna be in September only, so it's gonna be another 5 months before we jet off together ):

Mmm, the fries smelt really good.

We loved the fries and finished every bit of it hahaha. The fries were crisp and had lots of taste of the salted egg yolk (:

This was Tzu's Baked Chicken leg, which came with mashed potatoes and a red cabbage slaw. The chicken was quite tender, but the mash was kind of a let-down cause it was too runny though!

Pasta was quite yummy! The sauce had chili padi bits in it and I loved that it had that spicy tang (: Ah, I'm actually hungry while typing this now...

Wished we had more space to order the Calamari tossed in Salted Egg yolk, which my friend raved about but we were really full after we finished everything we ordered. So, I guess we'll be back another day to try out the calamari. I'm too curious to pass it up since my colleague said it's really delicious heh.

We spent about 2 hours just eating slowly and talking about everything else in between. The cafe only had about 4-5 other people and it was kinda nice that we came across Wilder, cause we loved the fact that it's quite a hidden gem and not that packed just yet (: Sundays are best spent over conversations and good food.

The Sleeping Rhino @ Klapsons

Nothing beats having brunch on a Saturday morning after a good night's sleep. I was invited down for a brunch session over at The Sleeping Rhino which was a restaurant located at Klapsons the Boutique Hotel Singapore on a weekend a few weeks back and here's my post to share about it!

The place:

We were seated down promptly when arriving at about 12 in the afternoon on a Saturday. Here's the menu:

We ordered the Crab Cake Benedict, Salmon Benedict and Homemade Pancakes (us being greedy as usual hehe)!

Happy face because....FOOOOD.

The dishes were served pretty quickly and we couldn't wait to dig into this spread!

Our items!

Crab Cake Benedict (bacon added on)

Inside the crab cake

Egg-y goodnesssss

Salmon Benedict (with added sausage)

Tzu happily nomming!!

Overall, we loved the eggs benedict plates served to us! The eggs were perfectly poached and the portions were big and came with sauteed mushrooms, salad and crab cake/salmon (depending on which you picked). I felt that the crab cake could do with a little less floury taste in it but it was still pretty delicious together with the eggs. As for Tzu, he was very much satisfied with his plate of Salmon Benedict! (:

Homemade Pancakes

The pancakes were my favourite. They were light, fluffy and tasted wonderful with the fruit and maple syrup. At the price of $12, I thought these were really awesome. If you like your pancakes fluffy and light (cause some people prefer to have a denser version to pancakes), this is definitely the place to be at.

IT'S SO FLUFFYYYYYY!

We left The Sleeping Rhino with our tummies full and happy that Saturday heh. Thank you so much to Klapsons for having us!

Labour Day - Froth SG

Haven't had a nice long brunch date with Tzu since practicum started so I was really glad that we made time to head out last Friday for a brunch date at Froth - located at the basement of Big Hotel along Middle Road.

We loved the space and dining area. It's open, big and not at all cramped like some of the other cafes we've been to. Tzu is a huge fan of big dining spaces because he feels pretty uncomfortable being in confined spaces hahaha, I think he cannot survive siting in Australian Dairy Co. in HK (maybe I should bring him there if we ever head to HK lol).

It was surprisingly empty for a public holiday (but perhaps it was due to us being there only at about 3pm or so).

Hahaha Tzu caught yawning

And here are some selfies while waiting for our food!

We spent hours at the cafe, just talking about everything and anything under the sun and stuffing ourselves full - because as usual, we were way too greedy for our own good.

What we ordered: Cheesy Lobster Sandwich, Chilli Crab Spaghetti, Spam fries, a Flat White and Iced Mocha (plus Taro waffles with Earl Grey ice cream for dessert!)

Cheesy Lobster Sandwich - TADA, we actually came down for this (and the taro waffles) because it looked too good to be true. But yes this is the bomb, we loved it hahaha.

CHEESE.

The Chilli Crab Spaghetti was a little spicy and definitely had some kick to it. It was pretty good I feel but the sauce felt a little watery though.

The plating - super cute cause they arranged 2 fried mantous to make the plate look like a crab!

Spam Fries next - need I say more? Fried to perfection hehe.

And yes, dessert next! Taro waffles topped off with Earl Grey Ice cream :9 - I LOVEEEE THIS -a definite must-try item for taro fans!

The inside of my waffles - yummehhhhh

Opening hours:
Daily from 1130am to 10pm (:

It was a wonderful afternoon spent with Tzu and it felt so good that we were out on a proper date as my practicum schedule had started to wind down a little during that labour day weekend (: He has been a great pillar of support during the past 11 weeks and most of our weekends during that duration were actually spent with him watching me plan lessons, do up resources for classes and mark worksheets and assignments.

Now that practicum's over, I'm looking forward to being a student back at NIE again (although it's only for a couple of weeks) before my beginning teacher journey begins. I'm even more appreciative of what my teachers have done for me as a student, after I've become a teacher myself -  it really isn't as easy as it seems to others who aren't in the profession.
And I'm extremely thankful for great CTs, awesome practicum batch mates and for some of the most delightful and sweet students I've come into contact with during this practicum season.

Here's to more love, grace and patience in everyone's lives! (:
